Resolving Conflict Effectively (RCE) using a Joint Learning Program (JLP) Format

This 3 day course uses the content of Resolving Conflict Effectively (RCE) while being delivered jointly with an UNDE representative, a member from management, and an ADR practitioner from a local DRC.  The delivery of this course is designed to explore and experience ADR in a union and management context.

Please refer to the RCE description for more information on the skill development for this course.

The RCE in the JLP format is open to union members and management.

E-Learning Module – Managing Civilian Human Resources

The purpose of this module is to provide awareness and basic knowledge of available ADR services within DND.  This self-paced/individual module can be found online under Module 8.

Informal Discussion-following the Internal Appointment Process

"Informal Discussion is a conversation between a person eliminated from further consideration in an internal appointment process and the decision maker.  Informal discussion could occur when someone has been eliminated from the appointment process altogether or when the person meets all the qualifications and requirements, but is not being considered for an appointment." (Canadian School of Public Service)

This course is offered by the local Civilian Human Resource Office and co-facilitated by an ADR practitioner to assist leaders to conduct an informal discussion if requested.  The Human Resource officer is the expert on “what” an informal discussion is and when to use it, while the ADR practitioner offers skill development on how to conduct an informal discussion. Please contact your local Civilian Human Resource Office to enroll in training.

In addition to the workshop, ADR practitioners offer coaching sessions to prepare leaders for a difficult discussion.  These sessions are offered through local DRC’s.

Customized Training

Work groups who have a specific focus or interests related to conflict management can contact their local DRC where an ADR practitioner can design and deliver a workshop to meet their needs.  For example, work groups may be interested in learning how to give and receive feedback.

DGADR also offers customized training to deployed groups who have a specific focus or interest related to conflict management.  This course would include our standard RCE with customized role-play scenarios related to their operational tasks.  (Ex. Mission Support Squadron; HMCS Calgary, etc.)

Conflict Resolution Skill Integration into Military and Civilian Professional Development Periods

Increasingly, conflict management education and skill development is being integrated into civilian and military career and professional development training.

The intent is to provide skills in conflict resolution relevant to the needs of CF members and DND civilian employees throughout their career.  This progressive integration of conflict resolution skills will mean a fundamental culture shift in how conflict is handled within DND.

Examples of integration are: Non-Commissioned Members Professional Development system, Supervisor Orientation Program, Managing Civilian Human Resources, Naval Officers Course.
