Of these, the names of 11,285 Canadians are listed on the Vimy Memorial. In 2003, the remains of two soldiers from the 49th Canadian Infantry Battalion were discovered near Avion in the North of France. Extensive historical, genealogical and forensic research has been conducted in an effort to identify these two individuals. Representative of Their Numbers (Oil on Canvas, 107 x 137 cm) is an interpretation of the last moments of these men’s lives, and is meant to represent all of Canada’s First World War soldiers who have no known resting place.
