LINEAGE

This Reserve Force squadron originated on 15 June 1920 and incorporates the following regiment and engineer squadrons.

The 10th Field Engineer Squadron originated in Chicoutimi, Quebec on 15 December 1936, when the '5th Army Troops Company, RCE' was authorized to be formed.1 It was redesignated: '5th (Reserve) Army Troops Company, RCE' on 7 November 1940;2 '10th Field Company, RCE' on 1 April 1946;3 and '10th Field Squadron, RCE' on 19 June 1947.4 On 1 September 1954 it was amalgamated with 'Headquarters, 4th Field Engineer Regiment, RCE' and '29th Field Park Squadron, RCE' (see below) retaining the same designation.5 It was redesignated: '10e Escadron du génie du Canada' on 1 September 1970;6 '10e Escadron du Génie de campagne (M)' on 21 May 1975;7 '10th Field Engineer Squadron (M)' on 3 May 1979;8 and '10th Field Engineer Squadron' on 4 September 1992.10

Headquarters, 4th Field Engineer Regiment, RCE originated in Thetford Mines, Québec on 15 June 1920, when the '5th Divisional Engineer Headquarters, CE' was authorized to be formed.12 It was redesignated: '5th Divisional Engineer Headquarters, RCE' on 29 April 1936;13 'Headquarters, 5th District Engineers, RCE' on 15 December 1936;14 'Headquarters, 5th (Reserve) District Engineers, RCE' on 7 November 1940;15 'Headquarters, RCE, 4th Division' on 1 April 1946;16 and 'Headquarters, 4th Field Engineer Regiment, RCE' on 19 June 1947.17 On 1 September 1954 it was amalgamated with '10th Field Squadron, RCE' and '29th Field Park Squadron, RCE', as above.

Note:

The 5th Divisional Engineer Headquarters, CE was authorized a Reserve order of battle counterpart on 1 November 1930 (GO 128/30). The reserve unit was disbanded on 14 December 1936 (GO 3/37).

The 29th Field Park Squadron, RCE originated in Quebec City, Quebec on 1 April 1946, when the '29th Field Park Company, RCE' was authorized to be formed.18 It was redesignated '29th Field Park Squadron, RCE' on 19 June 1947.19 On 1 September 1954, it was amalgamated with 'Headquarters, 4th Field Engineer Regiment, RCE' and '10th Field Squadron, RCE', as above.

Note:

No lineal connection with '10th Field Company, RCE, CASF' (redesignated 10th Field Squadron in 1941) of 1940 to 1946.

OPERATIONAL HISTORY

The Second World War

The 5th Army Troops Company mobilized the '5th Army Troops Company, RCE, CASF' for active service on 1 September 1939.20 The company was disbanded on 20 April 1940.21
