Chief Warrant Officer
Appointed 05 July, 2007

Chief Warrant Officer Terry Denyes was born in Trenton, Ontario. His formative years were spent in Winnipeg, Manitoba and Kingston, Ontario where his father, Jack Denyes, was posted as a percussionist with the Canadian Forces.

Following in his father’s footsteps, CWO Denyes enlisted in the Canadian Forces in 1977 as a percussionist and spent two years at the Canadian Forces School of Music in Victoria, British Columbia. After graduation, he was posted to The Vimy Band in Kingston, Ontario, where he began to build his reputation as a xylophone soloist.

The years from 1983-1994 saw a series of postings in quick succession: The Central Band in Ottawa, Ontario; The Stadacona Band in Halifax, Nova Scotia; the Canadian Forces School of Music in Borden, Ontario for the year long Assistant Director of Music Course; The Air Command Band in Winnipeg, Manitoba; the Canadian Forces Music Centre in Ottawa, Ontario; and finally full circle back to the Central Band. Throughout this period of his career, CWO Denyes accepted increasingly demanding administrative appointments as well as continuing to perform as a percussion soloist and lead vocalist. A career highlight as leader and lead vocalist for “Maximum Blue”, a small ensemble from The Central Band, was singing the National Anthem for the Grey Cup in Calgary, November 26, 2000.

CWO Denyes is the first person to be appointed as The Canadian Forces Music Chief Warrant Officer, which is a branch level position.

Terry and his wife Linda have two daughters, Emily and Melissa.
