POLICY DIRECTION
Policy
The CF will maintain a 1-800 Health Information Line staffed by civilian registered nurses to provide CF members with health care treatment advice, general health information, and guidance on where and how to access CF health care services.
CF Health Information Line
The CF Health Information Line is a toll-free, 24-hour-a-day, seven-days-a- week number that provides information and advice concerning health care treatment, general health information, and guidance on where and how to access health care services. The CF Health Information Line telephone number 1-877-MED-DENT (1-877-633-3368) is displayed on the front of the CF Health Care Card and at all CF health care facilities.
More Information
Members seeking more information about the CF Health Information Line are encouraged to ask the staff at their supporting CF Medical Clinic.
OPERATING PRINCIPLES
How it works
- CF members in need of health care can call the CF Health Information Line:
- And speak directly to a registered nurse who will guide them to the most appropriate care; or
- Before seeking non-emergency health care by other means outside of normal duty hours; or
- For advice if they are unsure of where to go for care.
Not intended to replace local emergency response lines
The CF Health Information Line is not intended to replace local medical emergency response lines. In health emergency situations (medical and dental) members should seek help immediately through the existing methods, e.g. routine orders. 911 response lines are now operating in most areas of Canada.
